From unpaid wages to irregularities in workplace practices, the report highlights key statistics and actions taken to improve conditions for employees. Here\u2019s a breakdown of the findings in point form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Employment Irregularities in 2024:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>675 workers were not paid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>379 workers were not given their bonus or weekly allowance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2,225 cases of irregularities were found by DIER.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>408 cases involved workers not being given their annual leave.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>268 cases involved workers not being given their payslips.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Actions Taken by DIER:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1,202 investigations were opened.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>552 cases were resolved quickly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>107 inspections were carried out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>172 workers were interviewed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>172 cases of irregularities were taken to court.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u20ac1.6 million in wages were returned to unpaid workers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Food Courier Investigations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>44 food courier fleet managers were investigated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legal proceedings were taken against 5 fleet managers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employment Agency Licenses:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>145 licenses were issued.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Collective Agreements and Trade Unions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>13 new collective agreements were signed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>43 extensions of existing agreements were made.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 new trade union was registered, for a total of 45 trade unions in Malta.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DIER is working on removing 5 trade unions and 2 employer associations from the register.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Sciberras Advocates, we are committed to providing expert guidance and support in all aspects of employment law, from drafting contracts to resolving disputes and managing terminations.
